10 Characteristics of False Teachers

10 Characteristics of False Teachers

The Bible says that a great deception, or great apostasy will come on the land before the return of Jesus. (2 Thessalonians 2:1-3) It is here! The sad fact is that most of the “elect” or those who call themselves Christians, have no clue that they are being led astray by false teachers. (“For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand.”(Matthew 24:24-25, NKJV). They assume that because some teacher has thousands following him/her, that they have to be teaching sound doctrine. Most also have not taken any time to lift that possibility up to the Lord and ask for His insight and discernment. If you ask for His warning flags, He will give them. Don't assume anything.

Here are a few signs for evaluating false teachers:

1) More attention is focused on them and their ministry than on Christ. When men or women value their titles highly and continuously speak about their anointing or what they have accomplished, they are not humble servants of God.

2) They will ask you to do something that compromises your beliefs or sway your beliefs to fit their theology. You've always believed a certain scripture to be true, but suddenly the teacher has given a meaning that leaves your spirit unsettled. It's taken out of context of what the passage was teaching and used to try to invent something new or change some behavior or attitude.

3) They will de-emphasize the divine nature of Christ or the divine nature of the Bible. If a person does not believe the Bible is the holy, divine, inspired Word of God, then nothing else they teach really matters. It becomes a “bless me club” of cafeteria style doctrine, choosing verses and making up their own theology to tickle men's ears. “For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.” 2 Tim 4:3

4) They will urge believers to make decisions more based on human judgment and popular culture's acceptance (political correctness) than on God's Word and guidance of the Holy Spirit. We have a difficult path but Jesus said the world would hate us. (Matt 10:22) If all the worldly, popular folks adore us, we're most likely not standing on the truth of God. Godliness sets a high standard.

5) They will use emotions to lead people into decisions and actions. Emotions are manipulated by beautiful music, repetitious lyrics and a crowd mentality where it seems that if everyone else is into the flow, it has to be right, or has to be the Holy Spirit moving. Wrong. Satan masquarades as an angel of light. False signs and wonders can create false beliefs which lead to disaster. (Mark 13:22) Research indicates that some churches resemble cults, using mind control techniques. http://www.phinnweb.org/neuro/brainwash/

6) They will declare a secret knowledge that God has given them, often a new revelation on a scripture or doctrine that they must share. These new revelations are often a total twisting or misuse of scripture. They will offer their secrets to hungry believers at a cost, usually for books, DVDs, conferences, etc. This usually includes an unbalanced focus on prophecy and spiritual warfare.

7) They are highly skilled in public speaking, influencing with an appearance of love, compassion and usually reminding listeners of their anointing. It is superficial. Due to the sometimes demonic powers involved, seekers might “feel” something spiritual pushing them, leading them or creating a mood. It doesn't ensure it is the Holy Spirit of God. Occultic powers can influence easily if one is open to them.

8) They feed that craving to go deeper that believers often have, by offering a more sensational and entertaining worship service. People are impatient to wait on the invisible work of God within the heart. They will chase after leaders seeking one experience after another, looking for manifestations.

Generally, these manifestations are purely entertainment. There is no sign of transformation in the believer's life. (Matt 7:15-20)

9) They will teach just enough good and sound teachings to lure the hungry believer in, but then put their new twist on it which moves into the very unsound teaching that damages people's lives.

10) They play to those who think they are mature, but in truth do not know the Word of God. Many Christians never study the Bible in depth, only read trendy books, watch DVDs or follow popular teachers on television. These people are easily manipulated.

We should never assume any supernatural experience is from God. Yes, some are; but many are not.

Satan imitates God's work and many teachers are deceived themselves. This is why it is critically important to pray much, study the Word by chapters and books to get the full context of the meaning of the scripture, and let the Holy Spirit be your true Guide. Pray for a sharper discernment every day. Do research to learn more about the foundational beliefs of those you follow. You may be surprised.

There are dozens of scriptures about being deceived. The Lord gives us so much freedom to make our own choices, but He desires that we walk circumspectly, always alert and watchful, listening for His voice of direction. We want to be considered a part of “the remnant” or those who are faithful to His original truth despite apostasy and opposition. Among people professing religious faith, the remnant is a relatively small minority. A sobering thought for sure.

Come out of the stupor

I feel like ranting today.  It's my blog, so I guess I can write whatever I want, right?  I wish that people would wake up and smell the cappuccino since it's practically scalding them in the nostrils.   Our culture is spiraling the drain and people are oblivious.  I am so tired of hearing about tolerance and busyness and how hard it is to juggle all of life's stuff and be expected to take responsibility for the state of our nation.  Yeah, that's right, if we just keep our blinders in place, don't look out beyond our own little world, insist that all the energy and time we have must stay focused on our house and job, it will all go away and we will remain untouched.  Right?!  One of my personal favorites is "God understands".  Oh yes, He sure does.  He understands that our families and friends accept all our excuses so He will too. Wrong!!!   What am I rambling about?  I don't expect anyone to walk out of their warm cocoon each morning and conquer all the evils that abound in the world.  However,  most people don't even want to engage in a discussion about where we're headed, except to rant about the government.  After raging over that, they turn very focused attention back to facebook, twitter and whatever other gadget controls their lives.  Tuned out!  So....now we see the next generation following suit and most of the kids we're around can't even carry on a reasonable conversation, making eye contact, thinking.....let alone consider how to develop a relationship.  We have become droids, operating in a robotic fashion, allowing the brainwashing to continue its deception and insidious takeover of the planet.

Folks, we have to wake up!  Come out of the stupor.  Our country and our world are truly crashing down around us and we are believing the lie that we are in a little protected bubble forever more.  I read posts on facebook that are so revolting.  Someone posts a simple idea or opinion and 25 people will attack them with profanity and threats.   Does that not concern you?  The state of mind of the folks drinking lattes all around you are destructive and even sinister.  And, if you have stuck with me this far in this rant, you're probably saying that I'm overreacting.  I'm not!!!  Go to any YouTube video and read the comments sections.  I shudder as I suggest that.  Our world is in big trouble my friends.  And, I want to suggest to you that if you can read all those vile comments posted and feel nothing, you are in trouble too.  Yes, I know there are lots of good people out there doing and posting nice things.  And, of course, we have freedom of speech, ad nauseum.  If that's all you can say to this problem, then you are part of the problem.  Praise God there are good people out there trying to make a difference.  But there's not enough of them.

I thank you for reading this far.  I thank you for reading my blogs and my book and for the positive remarks you send me.  All I am asking is that you take a look around you.  Are your kids spending some time out in the sunshine?  Are they able to sit down with an adult and have a reasonable conversation?  Are they learning to appreciate differences and show respect for others?  Or are they comfortable with profanity and vulgar language?  Do they know Jesus? These are important questions for adults as well as children. I could list hundreds more, but I will release you from my rant.

The only answer for the ills that plague us is Jesus Christ and living with His Spirit indwelling us.  He gives us the power to rise above, to stand firm, hold fast and endure when everything around us is crumbling.  He longs to bring inner peace and He will if He's allowed inside our stubborn hearts.  He cringes and grieves when we surrender to the world's dirtiness, and even more when we enjoy it.  Don't be sucked in to the enemy's plan to take you down while you're lost in a vacuum of work, games, and the false belief that you will never be touched by disaster.   The scripture says to be alert!  The enemy's schemes are designed to steal, kill and destroy.  He's well on his way to success in that goal in many, many lives all around us.  We must come out of the stupor, get our lives on track, reach out to others, and realize that all is not well just because we heard it was on the national news report.  Please pray about what God has for you today, tomorrow and in the near future.  We need a prepared church, trained, equipped and full of light and love.

Dying to Self

Dying to Self

What is your biggest obstacle to being totally surrendered to God?  To be honest, most of us really don't even

comprehend complete surrender.  'Laying it all down' in submission to His will is the ultimate act of humility and most

of us really don't get it.  Jesus described the “dying to self” process (“denying self”) as part of following Him — “If

anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me” (Mt 16:24)

Denying ourselves is a concept that is pretty foreign in today's culture.  Everything we read and watch is about

indulging ourselves, pampering ourselves and obtaining things to entertain us and aid in our comfort.  There's even a

popular magazine named “Self.”  Who can even define humility?  It's so easy to say that we need nothing but Him

when we have every luxury at our fingertips.  Sitting in our Bible classes, we quote the verses easily.  But who is

living it out? The most difficult prayer for us to voice is, “Not my will, but Thine be done” and sincerely mean it.

Time is growing short and the Lord is pressing us toward His purposes.  There is no more time for lounging around

enjoying “Self” magazine and quickly reading a short Bible verse on the way to work or play.  The line is being drawn

in the sand.  Either we humble ourselves and stop procrastinating our walk into the deeper things of God or He will

take our calling and assign it to someone who will take action for the Kingdom.   He is serious at this time about our

obedience.  The world is not our god.  We have been called, chosen, and set apart to achieve His purposes.  It's simply

not about us.  We must take these verses seriously now.  There is a lost and dying world all around us drowning in

deception.  We must die to ourselves and learn what it is to really live.

George Muller, known for his great faith and ministry to orphans in 19th century England, was asked the secret of his

fruitful service for the Lord. He said, “There was a day when I died... utterly died.” As he spoke, he bent lower and

lower until he almost touched the floor. “I died to George Muller — his opinions, his preferences, his tastes, and his

will — died to the approval or blame even of my brethren and friends — and since then I have studied only to show

myself approved unto God.”  And God did amazing things through his ministry.

DYING TO SELF

When you are forgotten, or neglected, or purposely set at naught, and you don't sting and hurt with the insult or the

oversight, but your heart is happy, being counted worthy to suffer for Christ.

THAT IS DYING TO SELF

When your good is evil spoken of, when your wishes are crossed, your advice disregarded, your opinions ridiculed,

and you refuse to let anger rise in your heart, or even defend yourself, but take in all in patient, loving silence.

THAT IS DYING TO SELF

When you lovingly and patiently bear any disorder, any irregularity, any impunctuality, or any annoyance; when you

stand faceto face with waste, folly, extravagance, spiritual insensibilityand endure it as Jesus endured.

THAT IS DYING TO SELF

When you are content with any food, any offering, any climate, any society, any raiment, any interruption

by the will of God.

THAT IS DYING TO SELF

When you never care to refer to yourself in conversation, or to record your own good works, or itch after

commendations, when you can truly love to be unknown.

THAT IS DYING TO SELF

When you can see your brother prosper and have his needs met and can honestly rejoice with him in spirit and feel no

envy, nor question God, while your own needs are far greater and in desperate circumstances.

THAT IS DYING TO SELF

When you can receive correction and reproof from one of less stature than yourself and can humbly submit inwardly

as well as outwardly, finding no rebellion or resentment rising up within your heart.

THAT IS DYING TO SELF

Are you dead yet? In these last days, the Spirit would bring us to the cross.

Understanding Dominionism and its Roots

Guest Blog by Stacy Solorzano

Do·min·ion noun \də-ˈmi-nyən\: the power to rule : control of a country, region, etc.: the land that a

ruler or government controls

Our (Zionist Jews) race is the master race. We are divine gods on this planet. We are as different

from the inferior races as they are from insects. In fact, compared to our race, other races are beasts

and animals, cattle at best. Other races are considered as human excrement. Our destiny is to rule

over the inferior races. Our earthly kingdom will be ruled by our leader with a rod of iron. The

masses will lick our feet, and serve us as slaves.

Menachem Begin, Israeli Prime Minister, in a speech to the Knesset [Israeli Parlament], quoted by

Amnon Kapeliouk, “Begin and the Beasts,” New Statesman, June 25, 1982 (via dougnj)

The meaning of the history of the last century is that today 300 Jewish (Zionist) financiers, all Masters

of (Masonic) Lodges, rule the world.

Jean Izoulet, prominent member of Jewish Alliance Israelite Universelle, 1931

Dearest siblings, the history I am about to share with you is hard to swallow. But I ask you to

read with an open heart, and prayerful discernment. There are literally volumes of historical text to

back up my research. I am more than willing to share resources, websites and answer questions. I want

to establish clearly, that Judaism is not Zionism. This is not an attack on a religion or a particular race.

This however, is an attack on a dangerous ideology which has infiltrated the world and is muddying the

waters of sound doctrine. I am here to establish that Zionism is freemasonry...and as such has no place

in the Church. Christian Zionism is an oxymoron, and to support the geopolitical state of secular Israel is

to create the stage by which the Anti-Christ will one day rule the world. The leaders of the Zionist

movement used deception and manipulation to convince naive Christians, anxious to hasten the Lord's

return, to support the State of Israel at all costs.. even at the cost of common sense, and Godly concern

for mankind. They twisted the scriptures to fit their agenda and today it is a great delusion and fear of

God's curse that keeps the support coming.

Let's start at the beginning..Kingdom Now Theology, Dominionism, The World Wide Church of

God, The New Apostolic Reformation and the newly formed various Messianic Jewish teachings, such as

the Hebraic Roots Movement, all base their prophetic -end-time Israel/Jew centric doctrines on the

muddy foundation of Dispensational Theology.

The Pre-tribulational, pre-millennial futurist doctrine of Dispensationalism is relatively new (150

years). Prior to its introduction in the mid 1800's by John Nelson Darby the teaching had rarely been

heard of in Christian history and never taught in a systematic way. The closest thing to it being the

various Jesuit futurist teachings of a two-stage coming of Christ and an end-time Anti-Christ, all written

in an attempt to convince Europeans, in the wake of the Reformation, that the Pope was not the Anti-
Christ. (see 1581 Futurist Treatise by the Jesuit Cardinal Bellarmine) John Darby's particular rendition of

this teaching was shaped by his own influences in Freemasonry, Kabbalah and the Occult (no doubt

pulling from that Jesuit history). Its dissemination was a direct result of the same.

Enter Zionism. Historically Zionism has been intimately intertwined with Freemasonry, the Kabbalah

and the Talmud. In 1861 a Jewish periodical, La Verite Israelite reported:

"The connections are more intimate than one would imagine. Judaism should maintain a lively

and profound sympathy for Freemasonry in general, and no matter concerning this powerful institution

should be a question of indifference to it. ..the spirit of Freemasonry is that of Judaism in its most

fundamental beliefs; its ideas are Judaic, its language is Judaic, its very organization, almost, is Judaic.

Whenever I approach the sanctuary where the Masonic order accomplishes its works, I hear the name

of Soloman ringing everywhere, and echoes of Israel. Those symbolic columns are the columns of that

Temple where each day Hiram's workmen received their wages; they enshrine his revered name. The

whole Masonic tradition takes me back to that great epoch when the Jewish monarch, fulfilling David's

promises raised up to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, a religious monument worthy of the creator

of Heaven and earth." ( 1861, Parisan Jewish periodical La Verite Israelite (Vol V., p.74)

In the late 1800's the Zionist movement had started in earnest. By 1881 parts of Palestine had

been purchased by the Bank of England owner Mayer Amschel Rothschild and thus marked the so

called "Masonic New Age of Michael"..when the Jews would create their own homeland. At the same

time, the Dispensational teaching of Darby, which held Israel's establishment and future at its core,

was taking off and had been adopted by William Eugene Blackstone; the Father of Christian Zionism.

Blackstone, financially backed by Standard Oil Baron, Nelson D Rockefeller, JP Morgan, various other

Freemasons and even members of the Skull and Bones Society, along with Dwight L Moody, published

the 1891 Blackstone Memorial, a booklet calling for a Zionist State in Palestine.

Then in 1897, Theodore Herzl officially established the Zionist Movement. What can I say about

Herzl other than the current Grand Lodge of Freemasonry in the State of Israel is named after him.

Herzl's Zionists were vehemently opposed by numerous Orthodox Rabbis. Rabbi Pinchas Eliyahu

Rothenberg, rabbi of Piltz, Russia is quoted stating:

"There is a new group calling itself “Chovevei Tzion” or “Zionists” who entrap many people in

their net, who think that their actions are for the sake of Heaven. I therefore find myself obligated to

make known and warn all those who have fear of G-d in their hearts to stay as far as possible from

them, and to uproot and cleanse away their actions… All the great rabbis of our time have already

warned us to keep away from them, and it is a great deed for anyone who has the power to spoil their

plans. Rabbi Pinchas Eliyahu Rothenberg, rabbi of Piltz, Russia (c. 1902) (Daas Harabbanim, letter 4)

Why were they so opposed? Because Zionism, at its core is a Masonic desire for a secular

political state free of the religious obligations of Judaism..or any religion for that matter. The Rabbis

understood this. Many naive Christians did not.

Without the support of Rabbis, the Zionist saw an opportunity in the Dispensational, Israel/Jew

centered teachings of Darby to win support for the establishment of their Jewish Homeland. C.I.

Scofield had entered the scene at this juncture and being financed by Samuel Untermeyer, he spread

the dispensational theology near and far. Untermeyer was a member of the Magical Order of the

Golden Dawn, a Zionist and reportedly called a "Satanist" by a British Newspaper. C.I. Scofield..well, in

short, he was a fraud with a felony record. Charged with abandoning his wife and children, (something

he never publicly repented of nor attempted to rectify), and a long list of other charges pending from

bribery to embezzlement.. he was a scoundrel and a liar. (look it up) In 1909, backed by Untermeyer,

he and William Blackstone published the first ever Scofield Commentary Study Bible. The bible was the

first of its kind, with doctrinal notes teaching pre-tribulational, pre-millennial- Israeli centered

Dispensationalism. They disseminated this false teaching first, through the Moody Bible Institute and

later (1924), the Dallas Theological Seminary would become the center of Dispensational teaching in

America.

The heretical teachings of Christian Zionism and Dispensationalism may have fallen away

naturally, had it not been for the Scofield Bible. Surely the Secular Zionists would not have gained the

foothold they have today without it, and the onslaught of Charismatic Christian Zionist denominations,

all teaching a theology that places unbiblical emphasis on the physical, political state of Israel, that have

followed would not have taken root. From the muddy foundations of Dispensationalism, Zionism and

Freemasonry are built the bastions of the Pentecostal/Charismatic Movements. The founding father of

the Charismatic Movement, Charles Fox Parham, the spiritual director behind the Azusa Street Revival,

was himself a Zionist, a freemason and a Klansman to boot. He believed white males to be the "true

jews"..Other early leaders, with a long list of criminal charges, false prophecies and nefarious ties to the

occult are a topic for another paper..

I adjure you my friends.. to prayerfully petition Jesus and ask him who exactly was he talking

about when he warned his children in the book of Revelation:

“‘I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich) and the slander of those who say that they

are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan" (2:9)

and again in 3:9

"Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie—

behold, I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that I have loved

you."

The Heartbreak of Estranged Adult Children

Estranged?  Seems like an unusual topic, but unfortunately it's not.  Since beginning Ministry Minutes a few months ago I have had contact with at least five people who are hurting from the loss of their adult children.  By loss, I am referring to children who have chosen to, in effect, divorce their parents and break off all communication. This has been called a silent epidemic, with numbers growing daily.  As I did some internet research, I found literally thousands of sites discussing this topic.

There are undoubtedly times that it is healthy to do such a thing with good reasons backing the decision. Where there is abuse, addictions or other situations where people are unsafe, it is recommended to distance onself at least temporarily, until some level of resolution is reached.   However, in each of the situations I have encountered recently, the parent has done nothing abusive and in most of the cases has no idea why this situation is what it is.  They were not even offered an explanation to contemplate.

Some of these parents have made every effort to communicate, make amends for perceived wrongs, and tried to use mediators or simply sit down and work things out.  In each case, the adult children refused to try to find any common ground.  The pain and heartache these parents are suffering is deep and tragic. The bond between parent and child is strong and in a parent's heart, can never be severed without leaving a bleeding wound inside.  When grandchildren are involved, the pain is multiplied.

What counsel can I offer?  I certainly offer compassion and prayer.  It seems that either the adult child has been hurt and chooses to stay angry and unforgiving, or they are simply self-focused and maybe even narcissistic. "Generation ME  has never known a world that put DUTY before SELF, and believes  that the needs of the individual should come first" -Bobby Conner. To refuse to make any effort at reconciliation indicates a big problem within themselves.  Blaming parents for every negative aspect of their lives, perhaps they are simply refusing to grow up and be responsible adults.  It's easier to blame.  There are no perfect parents.  Sometimes it takes becoming a parent to begin to realize the complexity of child rearing and appreciate the human frailties that enter into the process.

Many times parents of adult children have difficulty in cutting the cord.  They will demand daily calls, visits or other involvement that crosses healthy boundaries.  Adult children need their space and to be shown the same respect as any other adult.  Advice on child rearing or any other aspect of life should be given only when asked for, unless your child has given you that permission to speak into his/her life at any time.  Some do have that type of relationship and it works fine.  It must be a mutual agreement.

Seeking God in prayer moves one in the right direction, which hopefully will lead to finding a path of communication that works for all parties.  Talking through issues can shed light where confusion has reigned. Compromises are inroads to making a win-win situation for everyone.

If you are ministering to someone grieving the loss of their child's relationship, consider suggesting a mediation meeting with an objective, outside party or someone they both respect and trust.  If they reject any effort at all, the parent will have to find a way to let it go. This is extremely difficult, but making peace with the situation is important.  If the parent knows they have done absolutely everything possible to make things right -- to no avail, there is at least the peace of knowing that the choice lies with their child.

If you are that adult child reading this, I beg you to go to the Lord and really ask for His help to forgive, to consider the pain you're bringing to your parents, the damaging effects of denying your children grandparents, and your own need for inner peace. The decisions you make will have lasting effects on the generations which follow you.   In the increasing darkness of this world, family relationships are critical.  That support system which provides a rich history, an intricate interweaving of love and connection, is a legacy that cannot be replaced by anything else.

If you are that parent, hold fast and trust God.  Prayer has moved many mountains and as your child matures, there is always the hope that he/she will return to you.  In the meantime, find your peace in knowing that you have given it your all, your best shot at keeping the door open.  We never know what God is working out behind the scenes, and sometimes it takes time.  If you have done something you regret, confess it to God and leave it with Him.  If you have asked His forgiveness, you have it.  Consider the Serenity Prayer and ask God to give you peace in knowing you have done all you can do.  He has a way of bringing His love and other people into your life who can help to fill that void.

Serenity Prayer: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.

Scriptures for Encouragement:
Psalm 34:17-20 When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken.
Isaiah 49:15 Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.
1 Cor 13:7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Prov 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
Prov 11:29 Whoever brings ruin on their family will inherit only wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise.
Joel 2:25 I will restore to you the years the locusts have eaten.

The Sound of Life or Death

Let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.  James 5:20

What is the true mission of your Christian life?  Do you ever stop to think about why you are here and how you are fulfilling God's purposes? This week I've been meditating on this quite a bit.  I can justify my lack of evangelizing by saying it's not my gift or calling.  I can ask God to put lost souls in my path and when He doesn't seem to do that, well, there's an excuse.  But honestly, if we all seem to agree that time is short and there is a lost and dying world out there, how can we just complacently sit in front of our TVs, computers and smart phones and pretend it's not happening.

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”  Jeremiah 17:9-10

We are very good at justifying our behaviors and attitudes.  In fact, we can get quite defensive if anyone confronts our lack of action.  But, the Word tells us that our hearts are deceiftful and sick, and without the blood of Jesus covering that, we would be doomed.  The people around us are hurting.  People in pain are everywhere and many without any true knowledge of what Jesus can do for them.  They have plenty of false ideas, wrong assumptions and resentments toward carnal Christians.  But they don't know what can happen in their lives when the Holy Spirit indwells them and heals their wounds.  Why aren't we more excited to go tell them?  There are many reasons.

Last night I was preparing for bed when I heard an animal screaming in distress.  I went out on my back deck and wished I hadn't.  Apparently a mountain lion was killing a deer right in my yard.  I can't tell you how horrible the sound was of the predator breathing hard and growling while the victim was fighting,  crying in horrible screams as it finally gave up.  I am still haunted by the sound.  I could not see much in the darkness, just hearing every miserable sound.
Later as I tried to put it out of my mind and go to sleep, I felt the Lord impressing upon me that it is not unlike the human world.  The enemy is preying upon those running freely, thinking they are independent and not needing help from above.  And finally, in the end their screams of agony will pierce the heart of God as they go down.  If I told you my experience last night, you might say to me, "that's just the normal food chain.  It's life,"  and go on with no emotion.  But, if you had been there to hear it, you could not ignore it and go on nonchalantly.  Maybe we need to hear the torment of souls who perish so that we can wake up....and care.

The passage I began with in James states that by bringing a soul back from death, we will have a multitude of sins covered.  God's grace and mercy abounds to those who care enough to reach out to a dying world.  Let's all ask Him today who and where we are needed, and then be obedient.  The sound of the angels rejoicing in heaven when a soul comes to Christ is the sound I prefer to hear.

Spiritually Prepared?

 Spiritually Prepared?

Absorbing news stories in this critical hour of history can be quite anxiety-producing. I believe that those of us who minister to others are moving into a season where we will be confronting fear, stress and anxiety as never before. At the moment, we encounter those who have chosen to live in denial, trusting that nothing will ever really change for the worse, that it's all bluff. Then, we meet those who are watching and waiting for that big bad thing to hit and are not sleeping, eating antacids like snacks, and fighting depression.  Even most Christians I talk with fall into one of those two categories.

If we have studied the Bible, we cannot doubt that all those Biblical prophecies of old are now playing out before our eyes. Anyone who discounts that has not studied or is just choosing to be in denial for their own peace of mind.  Whatever the case, the Holy Spirit has been prompting many, many of us now for months to get spiritually prepared for some harder days.  Even as I am totally in agreement with this, I sometimes stop and ask myself what spiritual preparedness really means.  It's a subject that I'm praying over quite often.

In the days ahead, you, as a believer, as a leader, as a minister, will come face to face with helping the hurting and fearful to be spiritually strong in the face of turmoil. We must be sure at this point that we are walking in the Spirit, daily in the Word, praying fervently and exhorting one another in the faith.  We must be in a continual state of confession and repentance, so that our hearts are pure before God. This is not the time to slack or shrink back. We must be the strongest we can be in order to minister to others in times of great discouragement.

I've been told that spreading doom and gloom is a downer and nobody wants to hear it.  I will agree that it's not a fun, happy, feel-good topic, in light of what is coming in our nation.  However, if we obey the Lord and determine to be the salt and light in a dark world, we won't just wake up one morning in that darkness and be super-powered saints ready to conquer it all. This preparation period is a daily, step-by-step process of building our strength and resolve, getting the promises of God deep into our spirit, so that we will be ready to offer hope to the hopeless.  Do you feel ready to take that on?

The good news is that God's promises are true and eternal.  He will protect and guide us in the worst of days. The key is to know how to follow His leading, hear His still, small voice, and to stand with faith on His promises. We learn and teach that now, so that when times are really tough, we've got it going already and it's working in and through us as we go. Maybe you should pray about discipling or mentoring some who are younger in the faith?   Please pray about these things and do not be one who chooses denial.  You are needed now and will be needed even more when the darker days arrive. It's like a sports team training and preparing for that big, big competition.  We must be in shape spiritually, trained, fine tuned and on high alert so that as the Lord imparts instructions, direction and encouragement, we will be receiving and obeying to the fullest.  Our truest test of our Christianity is coming soon.  Some are already suffering for their faith.  Let's take this seriously and be prepared. Hundreds in your own world will be looking to you for answers, comfort and encouragement.  We must all be sure we are up for the job.

Scriptures for Encouragement:
Acts 20:24
However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me--the task of testifying to the good news of God's grace.

1 Corinthians 9:25
Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

2 Timothy 2:5
Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor's crown except by competing according to the rules.

James 1:12
Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

1 Peter 5:4
And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

Our Need for Discernment

Our Need for Discernment

1 Corinthians 2:14 - But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned.

Discernment defined: the quality of being able to perceive and comprehend what is obscure or unseen; wisdom in perception with insight; skill in the ability to grasp, comprehend, and evaluate clearly; it allows us to distinguish between what is real and what is imitation.

Discernment is a form of wisdom given to us by God, that moves us beyond book knowledge or intellectual achievement.  It grows in us as we mature in our walk with the Lord.   It means that we can look at a situation and understand things about that situation that are not obvious, not seen by the natural eye.   Discernment grows as we study the Word of God and build our relationship with Him.  We must be able to discern what is true or false teaching, true or false prophecy, and so on.  If we do not know the Word of God and study it for ourselves, we will never be able to discern when a false teacher or prophet is leading us astray.  If we do not spend time in prayer, learning to hear the voice of God, we will not know when a demonic voice is speaking to us and may mistake it for God.  Can you see why it's so important to pray for God to help us grow in this area?

How many times have you known that something was truly from God and were willing to stand on it no matter what, but some well meaning person told you it wasn't logical or it didn't make sense, so they would never do it.  These times can shake your faith, if you let them.  Many things are spiritually discerned and in the natural they may not make any sense at all.  Surely Noah felt that way, or Abraham and Sarah, Elijah, Joshua, and we could name so many more throughout scripture.  The Holy Spirit living in us gives us that spiritual discernment to understand the promptings of God as well as warnings when things are not right.  Discerment is a protection as well as a guide.

We need to pray for discernment every day.  The enemy is always ready to deceive and if our guard is down, we can fall into his trap.  As we move into more difficult days in our world, recognizing the true voice of our Father may mean the difference in life and death.  We cannot be fooled by false voices, false doctrines or false signs and wonders.  God loves to grant us the wisdom we ask for, and He will sharpen our discernment skills as we submit to His leading each day.  The One who leads us into all truth will always guide our steps (John 16:13).

The God of Angel Armies

The God of Angel Armies

I know Who goes before me; I know Who stands behind

The God of angel armies is always by my side

The One Who reigns forever, He is a friend of mine

The God of angel armies is always by my side.

"Whom Shall I Fear (God Of Angel Armies)" Chris Tomlin

The God of angel armies.  Can you envision angel armies?  It is a glorious picture.  Don’t think of cute little pink cupids.  Envision mighty warrior angels, large, winged giants, powerful, muscular, fierce and glowing with the anointing of heavenly ordination.  If we could see the spirit realm with our earthly eyes, we could not even bear it.  Yet, those armies are here with us.  They are surrounding you and me all the time.  They are working on our behalf.  They are standing against the demons who are set to destroy us and providing a divine protection that not only is beyond our imagination, but we take it for granted, not appreciating the sheer magnificence of it.

Jesus Christ is called the Captain of the host. A "host" in the Bible is an unseen army, invisible to the human eye that surrounds the throne of God. It is an angelic host. (2 Kings 6:17; Psalm 148:2; 103:21) Christ said twelve legions of angels were ready to defend Him. After Joshua and the people of Israel crossed over the Jordan and before they assaulted Jericho, Joshua had this strange encounter:

Once, when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing before him, drawn sword in hand. Joshua went up to him and asked him, “Are you one of us or of our enemies?” He replied, “No, I am captain of the Lord’s host. Now I have come!” Joshua threw himself face down to the ground and, prostrating himself, said to him, “What does my lord command his servant?” The captain of the Lord’s host answered Joshua, “Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you stand is holy.” And Joshua did so.—Joshua 5:13-15

The host of angel armies surrounds us.  The Captain of the host is in control.  Whom shall I fear?  No matter what befalls us, when we call out to the Captain, He speaks and the host obeys, moves into action on our behalf.  Their empowerment results from worshipping around the Throne.  We must do likewise.  Become empowered by worshipping at the Throne.  Live as though we are surrounded by a host of angel armies who act on the command of Jesus Christ Himself.  What could we ever fear knowing that?  One day we will see it with our eyes. I long for that day.
