Let endurance have its perfect result...
Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.…James 1:1-4
Testing your faith? Everyone who wants to be tested, raise your hand. No takers? Wow, with that scripture making it sound so good, why not? Think for a moment what you do when you find yourself in a trial. Right when it seems like everything is settled, going smoothly for once, boom---another little bomb drops in your lap. What is your first reaction? I’ve found myself saying, “C’mon, Lord! Why do you need to test my faith? I have not turned away from you through the last 500 tests, so why do you feel the need to test me once again? Do you not get it yet, that I am yours and will remain faithful?” (Now I know you probably would not be so brash with God.) Then I heard God speak to my spirit, “I know you better than you know yourself. This test is not for me. It’s for you, daughter.” Oh.
He is producing a strength to endure within us. He is developing muscles of lean power that can withstand the worst of times. The tests are not to prove something to God. They are for Him to reveal how His strength is made perfect in our weakness. We are weak, my friends. We sometimes think we are so strong, but then when we’re hit with a trial, we crumble. We whine, we beg, we murmur and complain. All the while, those reactions are proving that we need some more trials so that we never respond that way again. I know that my turnaround time is much faster than it used to be, but I can’t say that when trials hit I’m one hundred percent in the joy zone yet.
If I react to those little bombs dropping into my life with peace and joy, knowing I am being made perfect and complete, lacking in nothing, I imagine the frequency of trials will lessen. I have to have a new perspective on troubles in this life. I have to really see that they are developing me into a strong, powerful warrior for Christ. When my strength is displayed through joy and peace, I am on a new level in my walk with Him.
How indescribable is His love for us! How amazing is His plan to mold us and make us into vessels of power and inspiration to the darkness around us. It says endurance leads to a perfect result. His omniscience reigns over all! All praise and glory to His name!
